Discover the remarkable story of how a North Dakota invention helped shape American
advertising and illustration. Drawn from the private collection of Bruce Gjovig of Grand
Forks, this exhibit features historic Cream of Wheat advertisements created by some
of the nation’s most celebrated illustrators, including N.C. Wyeth, Jessie Wilcox Smith,
J.C. Leyendecker, and James Montgomery Flagg. Founded in Grand Forks during the
Financial Panic of 1893, Cream of Wheat grew to become America’s first and most
popular hot breakfast cereal while pioneering the use of fine art in advertising.
Member Artist Daphne Clark’s exhibit Plains Impressions explores the artist’s
impressions of what she observes in the subject rich area we live in. We often are so
busy in our daily lives we forget to take a moment to stop and watch the world around
us.
