In this three-hour workshop participants will create a hand cut layered cross using cardstock. Many layers of cardstock are laminated, and hand cut to create the design. The multiple layers give the crosses somewhat of a sculptural appearance. It is acceptable for participants to use an image other than a cross if they choose. Examples will be provided. Participants will be invited to create images of significance to their life story.
The beauty of working with this approach is that it is non-threatening to people who might not see themselves as artists as they learn that there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way through the process. Various tools will be provided to create some shapes and lines. It is a playful and creatives process with instant results.
The inspiration for these crosses is mola cloth. Mola is a hand-made textile that forms part of the traditional women’s clothing of the indigenous Guna people from Panama and Colombia.
